Yarmouth Boat Yard Owner and Chairman of the Harbor and Waterfront Committee, Steve Arnold, said “This will allow bigger boats up the river safely and strengthen the commerce of the working waterfront in Yarmouth.”
The dredging is expected to begin in the fall and will take approximately three to four weeks to complete.

Top 20 Restaurants to visit by boat in Maine

Tips for Choosing the Right Boat for Your Boating Lifestyle

Owning your very own boat is the key to enjoying all of the fun and adventure that the waters around Maine have to offer. However, not all boats are made the same. Some boats are made for fishing, some are made for skiing and wakeboarding, and some are made for entertaining. This means that you need to find the right boat that matches your boating lifestyle. Here are a few tips from your friends at Yarmouth Boat Yard.
Consider Your Favorite Sea-Faring Activities
First and foremost, think about what you will use your new boat for. For instance, if you like to explore small bays or troll the coastal flat in search of saltwater fish, you may be interested in a center console or multi-hull power boat. If you prefer the high-adrenaline adventure of waterskiing, wakeboarding, and tubing, bowriders and jet boats are good places to start. Talk to your boat dealer to find the boat that is right for your preferred activities.
Think About How Many Passengers You Would Like on Your Boat
The size of your new boat will determine the maximum number of passengers you can have your boat at one time. For a maximum of 10 passengers, look at cabin cruisers, deck boats, and pontoon boats. For 15 or more passengers, a large houseboat or motor yacht will be accommodating.
Select the Right Propulsion System
Although not as seemingly important as the size or design of the boat, the propulsion system can also help you determine which boat is right for you. A jet engine, for example, is equipped with a water-pump to create propulsion. Sterndrive propulsion systems are comprised of an inboard engine connected to a steerable drive unit. You may even choose to go with sail power, which creates propulsion by capturing the force of the wind.
