Yarmouth Boat Yard Team Attends Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show



Yarmouth Boat Yard owner Steve Arnold, Sales Manager Jack Stewart and General Manager Shawn Dumas all participated in last week's 54th International Boat Show, held in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  The show brings together the finest builders and designers of vessels from across the world.



 The new Regal 53' Regal Sport Coupe was unveiled this month at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

"After performing a week's worth of comparative analysis I came away from the show impressed with the Regal brand and confident that they make the best boats in their class," added Steve.

A large portion of the week for Jack and Shawn was dedicated to learning about the new Regal 32' Express and the Regal 53' Sport Coupe and participating in Regal training. The Yacht training was held at the show and included on-water comparison of Regal's new and improved models. The educational trip continued with Sport Cruiser and boat training at Regal's factory in Orlando. The Orlando factory training included hands-on comparisons of the Regal lineup alongside their competitors.



 This Regal is going through factory testing at the Regal Boat factory in Orlando, FL. 

"It was an eye-opening and exciting week to learn about the latest boat models and specifically the opportunity to view, test and evaluate the new Regal boats," said Jack. "I'm excited to share the knowledge about their extensive line of boats with our customers at Yarmouth Boat Yard.

Ross Taliaferro Joins Yarmouth Boat Yard



Yarmouth Boat Yard is pleased to announce that Ross Taliaferro has joined the crew in the capacity of Sales Representative. Raised in Maine, Ross grew up in South Freeport where he enjoyed boating out of the Harraseeket River,  learning to sail at the Harraseeket Yacht Club and cruising  the coast of Maine with his family.

Ross Taliaferro has joined Yarmouth Boat Yard as a Sales Representative.

"I'm thrilled to be back in Maine and doing what I love," said Ross. "Working around boats and helping other boating enthusiasts achieve their boating goals at Yarmouth Boat Yard is an amazing opportunity."

Ross attended Kents Hill School in Augusta, Maine and Washington College in Maryland. After school he held a number of positions including a year in the Caribbean as a deckhand on a 150' yacht. Most recently Ross served in  sales and marketing roles for several software startups in Boston.

"We're very excited to have Ross on the team," said Steve Arnold, owner of Yarmouth Boat Yard. "Ross has great boating knowledge, experience cruising the coast of Maine and unlimited enthusiasm and energy. He is a great addition to our crew."

Yarmouth Boat Yard Crew Spotlight: Michael Sullivan

Mike grew up in south Boston and attended UMass Amherst. After college Mike joined the Coast Guard and began his training as a machinery technician and engineer, attended school in Virginia and was later stationed in Portland and Rockland.

"The Coast Guard was a great experience. I traveled from one end of the Maine coast to the other and navigated every river in between," said Michael. "I've seen every lighthouse in Maine. I feel fortunate because most people will never got a chance enjoy those type of experiences."
 

Michael Sullivan has a wealth of experience servicing a variety of boat makes and models.
 
After four years in the Coast Guard Michael began working at Detroit Diesel where he was responsible for overhauling and trouble-shooting diesel engines on large fishing vessels and yachts. Mike went on to work for CB Kenworth in Scarborough. Later, Mike worked at Banforth Marine for five years serving as a mechanic specializing in outboard engines.
 
Michael began his tenure with Yarmouth Boat Yard in 2009 as a certified technician and has become an integral part of the team.
 
"It's a great feeling to be part of an organization that is evolving and changing. New boat lines, a new storage and service center, the acquisition of Moose Landing Marina are all examples of the growth and advances we are making at Yarmouth Boat Yard," said Mike. "I also love being on the river and the crew and customers here are great people."
 
In his spare time good Mike enjoys spending times outdoors with his wife and 9 year old son. Hiking, running and reading historical English fiction are also his favorite pastimes. In March, Michael and his wife celebrated the birth of their new son Keilen.

Kennebunkport Yacht Sales Open for Business

The newly formed Kennebunkport Yacht Sales is open for business and encouraging customers to stop by to check-out the latest Pursuit and Eastern boats for sale. Located on the Kennebunk River with a brokerage office at the beautiful Kennebunkport Marina, Kennebunkport Yacht Sales is open Monday through Friday until Memorial Day and Tuesday through Saturday from Memorial Day on. Kennebunkport Yacht Sales is a subsidiary of Yarmouth Boat Yard.

The current inventory at Kennebunkport Yacht Sales includes the Pursuit C 260 and Pursuit DC 235. Both are currently available for inspection and sea trial. The inventory also includes an extensive brokerage list of lightly used boats from 13' to 45'.

Kennebunkport Yacht Sales is located at 67 Ocean Drive on the Kennebunk River.


“We are very excited to be involved with Kennebunkport Marina and the excellence they bring to the marine industry here in Southern Maine. The Marina has first rate facilities with a ship's store, showers and a full time Mercruiser Master Mechanic as on staff. They also have a fully stocked fishing section with bait, so if fishing is your game you can stock up on all your needs and be at Jeffery’s Ledge in approximately one hour," said Steve Arnold, owner of Yarmouth Boat Yard.

"We had success with our Pursuit Boats here at Kennebunkport Yacht Sales last year and are looking to build on that success this year," said Matthew Camp, Sales Associate for Kennebunkport Yacht Sales. "We are off to a great start this year having already sold a Pursuit S 280 and a new Eastern 27' Islander."

Captain Jack Stewart Joins Yarmouth Boat Yard Sales Team

Yarmouth Boat Yard recently announced that Jack Stewart has been hired as a Sales Associate.

"We are thrilled to add someone with Jack's vast nautical experience and know-how. He is a huge asset to our customers and crew," said Yarmouth Boat Yard owner Steve Arnold.
Captain Jack Stewart has been an avid boater most of his life. He bought his first boat at the age of 17 and has owned numerous power boats from 14-35 feet in length.  He holds a US Coast Guard Master, Near Coastal, 50GT Captain's license.

  Captain Jack Stewart has a lifetime of nautical experience and boat sales.

Jack is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a degree in Oceanography.  He also has a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire.  Jack served on CG-27 USS Josephus Daniels and a shore tour in Washington, DC, then moved back to New England and has been in various sales and business development positions ever since.  Jack has been on the Board of Harbor Commissioners, Port of Portland, ME since 2006.
Capt. Jack joined the Yarmouth Boat Yard team in March 2013.  If he isn’t cruising the coast of Maine with Paula and their water dog, Olive, Jack can found enjoying virtues of living in Greater Portland.

Yarmouth Boat Yard and Moose Landing Marina Become Authorized Dealers for Parker and Regal Boats

Yarmouth Boat Yard and Moose Landing Marina announced today that they are the newest authorized dealer for Parker Boats and Regal Boats. The two new boat lines complement their existing new boat inventory. Both Parker and Regal boats will also be available through Moose Landing Marina, located in Naples, Maine and Yarmouth Boat Yard, located on the Royal River.

Steve Arnold Acquires Moose Landing Marina

Yarmouth Boat Yard owner Steve Arnold announced today that his company has acquired Moose Landing Marina, located in Naples, Maine. Moose Landing Marina is the largest on-water facility in Maine with 15 acres and 1,000' of frontage on Brandy Pond with access to Long and Sebago Lakes. Moose Landing Marina offers new and used boat sales, 200 deep water slips, storage, dockage, valet, parts and service, launch ramp and boat rentals.

Moose Landing Marina is located in Naples, Maine.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to acquire Moose Landing Marina," said Steve Arnold, owner and president. "To have a fresh water marina operation to complement our coastal, saltwater location in Yarmouth is very exciting. We already have a great team in place at Moose Landing so our goal will be to maintain the high standards of customer service and continue to strive to offer the best possible customer service."
The new boats available for purchase at Moose Landing Marina include Godfrey, Moomba, Glastron, Monterey and Kawasaki Jet Ski’s. Moose Landing also is a certified dealer for Yamaha, Honda, Evinrude and Mercury Outboard engines as well as Volvo Penta.
Moose Landing Marina has the capacity to store over 1,200 boats.
"We are working on the details of a customer slip reciprocity program between Yarmouth Boat Yard and Moose Landing Marina, which we will announce to our customers this spring" said Arnold. "Our existing customers can still expect the same great service from both facilities, with some enhancements. My team at Yarmouth Boat Yard has been preparing for this acquisition for quite a while and we’ve brought on some additional staff as well as some other internal management changes. The former owner, Dan Craffey, has already assembled an excellent group and we're grateful for the opportunity to build on their successes."

Crew Spotlight: Bailey the Boat Yard Dog

This month we spotlight the most popular member of the Yarmouth Boat Yard crew: Bailey, the Boat Yard Dog. Bailey is a graduate of the Westminster obedience school and attends Camp Bow Wow day care in order to maintain his continuing education when he is not fulfilling his duties at Yarmouth Boat Yard. 

Bailey enjoys greeting the boat yard customers, following Steve around, chewing his favorite discarded white bumper and encouraging guest to throw the tennis ball for him. You will find Bailey 'working' at the boat yard most days during regular business hours.

Crew Spotlight: Shawn Dumas, General Manager

Shawn's training in the marine industry began at a young age working as a yard hand for his family business doing grunt work like stripping the hull of boats, removing grime and prepping boats for the technicians for his family business Southern Maine Marine. For 14 years Shawn worked his way through the ranks in the Parts and Service department and as a technician working with Johnson, Evinrude and Mercury engines.

"My time with the family business at Southern Maine Marine helped me learn the marine industry from the ground up," said Shawn. I'm fortunate for the hands-on training I received."

Shawn attended college at the Montana School of Mineral Science and Technology in Butte, Montana. Working towards a degree in mining and geological engineering provided him with the physics, chemistry, math and earth sciences background he desired.

"Montana was beautiful but there was no ocean," said Shawn.

After Southern Maine Marine, Shawn began his tenure at Yankee Marina. For five years Shawn worked on marine systems and spent considerable time working on diesel engines and marine systems for boats up to 58 feet.

Through the years Shawn has served in a variety of positions at YBY including technician, head technician, service manager, parts and service manager to general manager today.
"My goal is to support the vision of Steve and Yarmouth Boat Yard of helping generate new boaters and to making the boating experience simple and enjoyable for our customers."

Over the years Shawn has received specialized training from the Maine Marine Dealer's Association, Evinrude, Mercury, MerCruiser, Honda, Yamaha, Crusader, Pleasure Craft Marine, Yanmar, Westerbeke, Westerbeke Generator, Fisher Pander and Pursuit Technology, ABYC, among others.

"I enjoy the fact that the industry is always changing. We've grown rapidly and it's been necessary to adapt and change with the market," said Shawn.

Working to improve customer service and working to implement new systems and new ideas such as the drive-up service center are the goals that keep Shawn motivated.

"I love boating in Maine and enjoy the variety of work at Yarmouth Boat Yard. There are many different challenges and different activities. I like being part of a team and feel fortunate that Steve has enabled me to assist and help develop and carry out his vision for Yarmouth Boat Yard. Through this opportunity I like to think I am learning how to become a good leader. It's the hard work of from our entire crew that has helped Yarmouth Boat Yard grow and prosper."

Shawn lives in Dayton, Maine with his wife Heather and their two kids Jack who is six and Mikayla who is nine. Shawn enjoys spending time with his family and working on his property in Dayton.

The New England Boat Show: February 16-24, 2013

Held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center at 415 Summer Street in Boston, the New England Boat Show is the largest show in the region. There are a number of learning opportunities as well as the widest selection of power boats and sail boats in one place in New England. From the "Welcome to the Water" boater orientation discussion to "Fred's Shed" - a chance to watch expert wrench slinger Fred and "The Boating Guy" demonstrate and explain common marine repair services, there are numerous outstanding boater education opportunities. 

The New England Boat Show takes place at the Bosston Convention Center and is the largest in the region.

The Portland Boat Show: February 28 - March 3, 2013

Held at the Portland Sports Complex at 512 Warren Avenue in Portland, The Portland Boat Show offers plenty of free parking and the largest display area of any local boat show. From pontoon boats to tournament ski boats, the exhibitors provide the show an incredible array of boats for you to see and experience first-hand.

The Portland Boat Show is a great family event.

Maine Boatbuilders Show: March 16-18, 2013

Most of the boat builders and designers are on-hand to discuss their boats.

The Maine Boatbuilders Show is different from the other shows in Maine. The actual designer/builder of the boats is often on-hand to answer questions and provide information. It is considered the finest gathering of wooden and fiberglass custom boat builders on the East Coast. Also, sailboats, powerboats, canoes, kayaks, and rowing boats with the builders are there to discuss and sell their work. The boats on display from Yarmouth Boat Yard include the Eastern 248 Islander, Eastern 27 Islander and Rosborough 246 Sedan Cruiser.

Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show: August 9-11, 2013

The Maine, Boats, Homes & Harbors Show is an outdoor and on-the-water show that takes place in Rockland Harbor.


Undoubtedly the most picturesque setting of all of the boat shows, the Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show is an outdoor and in-the-water show that takes place in Rockland Harbor. Listen to the steel drum band and enjoy clam chowder as you peruse the diverse assortment of boats and marine-related accessories.

The show also includes significant exhibitors from the world of home furnishings, art and fashion and Maine-made crafts. There is also plenty of live music, fresh food and the annual Boat Yard Dog competition - which is among the most popular and talked-about events.
